He was an avid outdoorsman who raised & trained hunting dogs, including spaniels & retrievers. The remnants of the kennels he kept them in still exist on the property. He loved duck hunting as well & had blinds on two points on the lake as well as on a large pothole which he dug in the interior of the property next to the farmland. They also had horses there & chickens. Arthur Welch was one of the founders of the Wisconsin Field Trial Club & used to judge Field Trials on horseback.
